Lanciano is a City full of history and tradition. The house is 200 meters from the centre of town. It has three bedrooms, with two bathrooms, a large kitchen with dishwasher, a large TV room with DVD, utility room with washing machine and a laundry room with iron. There is one terrace and one balcony. There is enough room to sleep six conformably.
It is in the center of Lanciano at the edge of the historical part. It enjoys the sun all day long, t with views of the hills and views of the Sangro Valley. Even though it is in the city center it is on a road where only local residence traffic passes.
We hope you will fall in love with the Frentana region as we have.

NOTE LAW In Italy, always drive with your lights on, as if it were night .... don’t ask!
ADDRESS Our house is on Via Garibaldi number 108, which is oposite the “Chiesa di San Nicola” (Chiesa is church) one the border between grid reference G 7 and H 7. There is a one way system in place on Via Garibaldi so until you get used to the roads I suggest the following route.
DIRECTIONS (important information is in bold, the rest is gossip) From the Lanciano exit on the motorway drive towards Lanciano on “Via per Treglio”, the opposite direction to San Vito (beach). Just after the exit is the “Polycenter Shopping Center”. Here there is a multi screen cinema, bowling alley, lots of shops and a lively Pizzaria / Mexican / Pub called Gassoline. Continue straight on until you arrive at a major cross roads H 9 (on the boarder with I 9), just before the crossroads on the right is a chinese restaurant and nightclub complex. At the cross roads turn left towards Castelfrentano taking “Via Iconicela”. Straight on is Lanciano and to the right is San Vito beach (there is a nice restaurant for meat along this road to San Vito on the left after 500 meters called Ribot in front of the Hotel Anxanum). Carry on that road for 500 meters. On the left you will pass “Barbeque” (great for a quick, tasty bite too eat – surprisingly good for grilled meats and side vegetables at lunch time). On the right you will pass a large Shopping Center (open all week till 9.00 pm – sometimes closes Sunday and sometimes closes Monday morning). Turn right onto the large roundabout after passing “La Fontana” shopping center and before passing the second shopping center “Lanciano Centro Commercial”. At the roundabout turn right up “Via Tinari”passing the ceramics craftsman. This is large road split into two. Go up the hill and cross over the railway lines. At the T-junction that imediately follws, turn right down Via Rossato. On your left you will pass the Stadium, then on your right the main Ufficio Postale (Post office). Carry on till you get to the round about “Via Ferro di Cavallo”. There are five exits. The first goes back on yourself. The second goes to the shopping area in central Lanciano, the third goes to the bus station and main parking area for Lancaino. Take the fourth exit. This is still Via Ferro di Cavallo. Keep straigth along this road untill you get to the Torre (Towers) on your right on Via Spaventa. Turn right in front of the wall before the valley. There is a beautiful view here of the mountain range. Go straight on along a small road for 50 meters then take the road right, effectively driving around the tower and the church “Santa Giovina”. Take the first left along Via Garibaldi an even narrower road. The hair dressers “Gio” on the right is highly recommended for a treat (make over and hair etc). Continue along the road for about 150 meters till you reach the end where you will see a large church on the left “Chiesa di San Nicola” and “Sant Rocco”. The house is opposite the church number 106 / 108. There is a brown garage which you can park in front of. Just after the house is a small communal square.
Via Garibaldi is one way. So, to leave the house continue driving forward down the hill. After 50 meters there is a sharp turn to the right. At the cross roads you can go straight on around the outside of Lanciano. |

LIVING IN
LANCIANO, REAL ITALY
My favourite time of the day is early evening. It’s still warm, and the streets in front of the house are quite. The sky turns red and sat on the balcony you can watch the sun setting behind the mountains. Dressed smart we leave the house and start the evening.
After a five minute walk we stop at the local bar for an aperitif. Today I’ll have a Brachetto, sparkling rosé wine. My wife likes the aperitif “analcolico della casa” (non-alcoholic cocktail) and the children choose a fresh ice-cream. The streets are full of people of all ages having their early evening walk, chatting and drinking their aperitifs. It is surprising lively but then at 8.00 o’clock they all disappear into their houses to start their evening dinner.
We begin to talk about what to eat. We can go for fresh fish which is a little more expensive but with a light local white wine makes a memorable meal. We could eat succulent meat instead. Lamb is the Abruzzi specialty but I still prefer beef fillet, I have never eaten beef filet better than here. There is the quicker more informal option like pizza. We don’t worry about taking our small children because they are accepted (and usually adored) anywhere we go.
We decide for pizza. We don’t want to be too late eating as there is a festival on in a local village and we don’t want to miss the music and fireworks. LANCIANO IN MORE DETAILLanciano is a very beautiful mediaeval small city which dates back to 1098 B.C. It has a population of about 70,000 and is 269 meters above sea level. Lanciano still maintains its antique character and warmth as a typical real Italian city. The city is based on rolling hills which steadily grow higher as you head towards the mountain. It is 15 minutes from the sea, 45 minutes from Pescara airport (flights available from Ryanair) and 50 minutes from ski resorts (by car). Just over an hour away is Italy’s third biggest skiing resort Roccaraso. There are a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants where you can eat any type of local cuisine. There are some unique historical and architectural buildings and churches and there is a world famous Eucharistic miracle housed in Lanciano. Scattered around the hills near Lanciano are towns and villages with local specialties and secret beauties to discover on day trips.

My wife and I chose to move to Lanciano in 1998 from the UK. We love the close relationship in Lanciano between the high Maiella mountain and the Adriatic sea . We find the people friendly and welcoming and the food fresh and tasty.
Lanciano is a 15 minute drive from the Adriatic coast in central Italy- Abruzzo. It is a 45 minute drive to Pescara International airport and three hours from Rome. Abruzzo is becoming famous and Lanciano has been nominated “the Siena of Abruzzo”.
The climate is warm and quite dry. It gets hot in July and August which is when you appreciate the mountains to escape from the heat. Half way through November it starts to snow on the mountains and the temperature drops in Lanciano. Even through the winter you can still have warm sunny days. By mid December the skiing season starts and carries on till March. |
